ECEC is engaged at the state level in supporting the critical investments in early childhood education necessary to America’s future. These include policies related to child care subsidies for working families and early education quality initiatives like quality rating systems, as well as prekindergarten initiatives, where governors and state legislatures have shown leadership in developing and funding programs. At the state level, ECEC works with partners to promote:

• Full participation of quality child care and early learning programs in state-funded prekindergarten
• Programs that emphasize the development of the whole child and the importance of play and learning
• Policies that address the development of systems approach to early childhood and relate to the expanse of child development from birth to school age
